چکیده

In a number of recent experimental studies it has been reported that synaptic transmission is activity-dependent process. In this paper we study whether and how the synaptic plasticity, in particular, short-term depression a!ects coincidence detection. We explore the responses of a neuron to massive input of Poisson distributed spike trains containing a signal of coincident presynaptic spikes. Our numerical and analytical results indicate that depressed (dynamic) synapses are capable of coincidence detection over a larger frequency range than non-depressed (static) synapses. The conclusion is not particularly dependent on the neuron model and holds for both integrate-and-"re and Hodgkin}Huxley models. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. GABA-mediated membrane oscillations as coincidence detectors for enhancing synaptic efficacy in the developing hippocampus

Spontaneously occurring neuronal oscillations constitute a hallmark of developmental networks. They have been observed in the retina, neocortex, hippocampus, thalamus and spinal cord. In the immature hippocampus the so-called ‘giant depolarizing potentials’ (GDPs) are network-driven membrane oscillations characterized by recurrent membrane depolarization with superimposed fast action potentials...

Coincidence detection with dynamic synapses.

Recent experimental findings show that the efficacy of transmission in cortical synapses depends on presynaptic activity. In most neural models, however, the synapses are regarded as static entities where this dependence is not included. We study the role of activity-dependent (dynamic) synapses in neuronal responses to temporal patterns of afferent activity. Our results demonstrate that, for s...

The role of synaptic facilitation in coincidence spike detection

Using a realistic model of activity dependent dynamical synapses and a standard integrate and fire neuron model we study, both analytically and numerically, the conditions in which a postsynaptic neuron efficiently detects temporal coincidences of spikes arriving at certain frequency from N different afferents. We extend a previous work that only considers synaptic depression as the most import...

(S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine )an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors( induced synaptic potentiation at excitatory synapses on fast spiking GABAergic cells in visual cortex

Introduction: (S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine (DHPG) is an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors. DHPG-induced synaptic depression of excitatory synapses on hippocampal pyramidal neurons is well known model for synaptic plasticity studies. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of DHPG superfusion on excitatory synapses on pyramidal and fast-spiking GABAergic cel...
